Jose Altuve Sets New Single Season Hits Record for the Houston Astros

The last few years have been long ones for the Houston Astros and their fans. After making it to the franchises first World Series in 2005 it has pretty much been down hill, but their appears to be an end in sight. With the infusion of young talent the team may finally be poised to climb out of the cellar and become competitive once again (next year).

Leading the way will be one of the league's rising young stars and the team's new single season hits record holder, second baseman Jose Altuve.

Altuve has been a hitting machine all season long and on top or near the AL in batting average as well as hits (currently .342). Tuesday night against the Cleveland Indians he hit his major league leading 63rd multi-hit game to overtake a Houston legend--Craig Biggio--for the single season hits record.

The record setter came in the seventh when he knocked a single up the middle. Biggio was among the 18,000 that gave him a standing ovation.
“He maximizes what he can out of his ability and his size,” Biggio said of the 5-foot-5 Venezuelan(via the HoustonChronicle). “And I’m happy as heck for him. I hope het gets 220. What the heck, let’s keep it going.”

Houston fans just hope the franchise doesn't trade him away for more prospects.
