Refs Said Cowboys Dwayne Harris Penalized for Hitting Nolan Carroll Too Hard 'Unnecessarily'

Late in Thursday's game between the Cowboys and Eagles Dallas punt returner Dwayne Harris blasted a Philadelphia player coming down to cover the punt. Harris has been widely criticized for the hit and was flagged for unnecessary roughness. Immediately after he was seen wondering what it is he did that was wrong.

According to the refs he hit him too hard when he didn't have to.

After the game Garrett shared the logic the refs used when making the call: "They told us that he hit him too hard unnecessarily."

Too hard? In a football game?

There was no helmet to helmet contact. He didn't hit from behind. You can see the ball land in the picture so it wasn't away from where the play would be. Was it necessary? Eh--does that really matter?

Heck--they aren't playing flag football.

Dallas is right on this one. He shouldn't have been penalized, but knowing the league it would not be surprising to see him get hit with a fine.
