When this happened it looked like Lions wide receiver Jeremy Ross had made the heads-up play of the season recovering this tip and returning to mid-field, but those pesky rules had to get in the way. Eventually it was ruled that the Cardinals player had possessed the ball inside the one-yard line when he tipped the ball back in to the playing field.
Since it was a punt and no one from the receiving team had touched it as soon as he did the ball was dead--inside the one-yard line.

So in the end while it was a pretty play it was a worthless one.
