Recent weeks have seen another contender rise above the masses as well--Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans.
via Bleacher Report |
Much was expected of the 6'5" 230 pound first round pick from Texas A&M, but in the first few weeks he didn't really produce much. His 13 catches over his first three games was not horrible, but the 138 yards with no touchdowns was not impressive either.
So maybe the expectations were a little too high? Maybe with the quarterback situation being what it is he may need some time (and a better quarterback) to really flourish?
Or maybe he just needed a little more time.
Mike Evans with his 5th TD reception in last 5 games

Over the last two weeks he has really stepped up his game catching 70 percent of the passes thrown his way for 249 yards and three touchdowns. Up to that point he had caught 58 percent of the passes thrown at him (25 of 43) for 336 yards and two touchdowns.
At this point in the season his number are right in line with the other candidates. Watkins has the edge in yards, but Evans, Benjamin, and Watkins all have five touchdowns. Cooks lags behind in both categories, but can easily make up some ground with Drew Brees throwing to him.
So does he have a chance? Absolutely--if he can keep the production up.
