Cincinnati Bearcats Chris Moore Hit With Excessive Celebration Penalty For Saluting During the Military Bowl [GIF]

Usually the calls that the refs make are good ones and make sense. If we can't see the penalty during play we can usually see it during a replay. However, there are some penalties called that are beyond stupid. They are so bad that you have to wonder what game they are watching and what rule book they are using.

One such call was made during the Military Bowl on Cincinnati Bearcats wide receiver Chris Moore.

They hit him with an excessive celebration penalty because he saluted the crowd after scoring a touchdown. Let that sink in for a moment.

He's playing in the Military Bowl and saluted. The ref thought that was excessive. WTF?

It's not the first time that has happened, but it is still one of the dumbest things ever penalized. He was probably thinking he was doing something appropriate considering it was the Military Bowl. Regardless of the game flagging that as excessive should not be a penalty

Neither should hugging a mascot (which it wasn't).
