College Football's First Annual Fat Guy Heisman Trophy Goes to...

In case you didn't hear, the winner of the Heisman Trophy this season was Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota. The 'Flying Hawaiian' has had a tremendous season and it was a well-earned honor. He was the best player in college football this season--but he wasn't the best fat player.

The round and rotund play an important role on every team they are on, but their value is not recognized as much as the skinny guys on the field. So to honor them allow me to present to you the First Annual Fat Guy Heisman Trophy Award!

@Pac12Networks
The large and in charge do get awards for doing their respective jobs, but what about when they do something outside of what offensive and defensive lineman are typically known for? Like throw a touchdown pass? Jump high for an interception? Catch a touchdown pass? Or run?

It will be the guys that go above and beyond the call of duty for a fat guy that will be considered for the Fat Guy Heisman Trophy. This season their where plenty of candidates so with no further ado here are the top five:

Fourth Runner Up: Ball State defensive lineman Blake Dueitt returns a fumble 35-yards for a touchdown. This one almost did not qualify because Dueitt is not very fat (around 255 pounds), but he does play on the line and he did have to carry a stupid defensive back most of the way so it qualifies.

Third Runner Up: Michigan defensive lineman Willie Henry with an interception return for a touchdown. You have to love it when a big man jumps to do anything other than express joy.

Second Runner Up: Virginia defensive tackle David Dean leaping interception return for a touchdown. The leap. The extension. The awesomeness. This would have rated higher, but was graded down since he only weighed 295 pounds.

Choosing the runner up and the winner was a pretty tough call. Many will probably disagree with it and that's okay. People will have something to debate till the end of next season now. What sort of college football award doesn't generate controversy? Anyway...

Runner-up: Arkansas's 350 pound offensive tackle Sebastian Tretola throwing a touchdown pass. This was nothing short of beautiful and it is deserving of winning the award, but there was one element of the winner that this one did not have.

As unusual as throwing a touchdown pass is the winner did something even more unusual....

He ran really, really far!

Winner: All 340 pounds of Oklahoma defensive lineman Jordan Phillips returning a fumble 69-yards for a touchdown that did not count.

Maybe Sebastian should win because he actually scored, but when was the last time you saw a 340-pound man mountain rumble 69-yards without a single skinny person from the other team even trying to tackle him? Maybe if he Sebastian had rolled out or maybe if there was a little boot leg action he would have won.

So congratulations Jordan. You didn't get the touchdown because one of your idiot teammates threw an illegal block, but you did win the Fat Guy Heisman Trophy!

Honorable mentions go to Michigan State offensive lineman Connor Kruse and Mercer O-Lineman Thomas Marchman.
