Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe Auditioning for his Next Team? [GIF]

The Kansas City Chiefs have made something painfully clear this season--they are not a wide receiver-oriented kind of team. It's not that they do not like to pass because they do. With the way things have gone this year they just haven't done it with their wide receivers very much choosing instead to focus on their tight ends in the passing game.

As a result, Dwayne Bowe has had to make sure that he does whatever he can with every catch he gets, but one can't help but wonder know about his motivation.  Is it all about helping the team or is it an ongoing audition for his next team?

Winning of course is the primary reason for playing well. If someone were to ask him why he's hurdling guys lately in order to gain a few more yards he would probably say "so he can help the team."

Is he lying? Absolutely not. He's just not saying that he hopes someone else is noticing and likes what they see.

No one wants to be just another guy on the team and that is exactly what wide receivers have become for the Kansas City Chiefs. It has actually been over a calendar year since the Chiefs last threw a touchdown pass to a wide receiver. Of the team's top four in receptions only one is a wide receiver (Bowe).

Everyone likes to get paid in the NFL and Bowe is certainly doing fine in that regard, but they also like to be a part of the game plan. He has his role, but is it worth the $11+ million he is getting paid this season or the $14 million he is due next year?

Absolutely not.

The Chiefs would have to take a pretty big salary cap hit if they cut him in the off-season, but it would not be surprising if they tried to trade him in the off-season and draft a replacement. That way they can free up some cap space and if they draft the right player still have a capable wide receiver (should they ever decided to use him, that is).

If they can't find anyone for him don't be surprised if next season is his last at Arrowhead (unless he plays like an all-pro. His cap hit reduces significantly after next season making it easier to handle cutting him (if they can't trade him).
