WATCH: Navy Kicks Late Field Goal to Take 17-16 Lead Over San Diego State; Holds On To Win

At one point during the Poinsettia Bowl Navy and San Diego State fans had to wonder if having the ball last would be a bad thing for their team. Normally it is not. You want to have the ball at the end of the game, but with the way both offenses were turning the ball over it almost seemed like it might be better to be on defense.

That way the offense couldn't screw things up.

It was a fumble by San Diego Aztecs running back Donnel Pumphrey that led to Navy kicking the game winning field goal with just under a minute and a half left:


San Diego State had a chance to take the lead and secure the win, but missed the kick:
