Players in Super Bowl Made Some Good Cash Scalping Super Bowl Tickets

Scalpers and fans can make a killing selling tickets to events like the Super Bowl, but as it turns out they are not the only ones making a pretty penny off the big game. Many of the players--yes, the ones playing in the game--made a few bucks scalping theirs as well; upwards of $4000 a ticket even. How is this possible?

Well--the NFL forbids teams from making available more than 15 to players. The Seahawks allowed 13. That means they can get their two complimentary tickets and pay for an additional 11 if they chose at $1500 a piece.

A Seattle player spilled the beans to the MMQB:
“You can make anywhere between $3,000 and $4,000 on each extra ticket,” an anonymous Seahawks defensive player told The MMQB. “I sold eight. Some go to teammates, but most guys hand their extras off to agents, who sell them for a small cut. Pretty much everybody knows about it now. Word travels fast.”

This is a big no no as far as the league office is concerned and if it wanted to could fine the team and the offending player.

The logic behind it is a lot like anything else. If someone else if going to do it and make money why not us? Understandable, but when you are going to get paid at least $44,000 for the game along with whatever your contract is it worth the trouble to make a few thousand more scalping tickets?
