After a solid opening to the tournament with two wins on Friday and a win and a tie on Saturday, the competition was a lot tougher for the U.S. team on Sunday.
New Zealand simply outplayed the U.S. 26-12 to send the Eagles to the third place match against South Africa. When you play a team as good as South Africa is you can not afford to have many or really any mistakes--but the team did. The Eagles were not able to overcome a slew of bad passes and ended up losing the third place match 31-0.
While it was not the way the team wanted to finish the tournament it was the first time they had played in a third-place match in a 7s tournament and the best finish the team has had since 2010.
