Carolina Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera Not 100 Percent Sold on Cam Newton Being QB of the Future?

The Carolina Panthers are going to have a big decision to make sometime in the not too distant future. Their former No. 1 draft pick is finally coming to the end of his rookie contract. That means it is time to either pay the man or let some other team pay him--and someone will. As well as he usually plays it would seem that the decision is a no-brainer.

But it sounds like Ron Rivera is not 100 percent sold on what Cam Newton brings to the table.

While talking to some reporters at the NFL owners meeting Rivera said that Newton's fundamentals are not where they need to be.
"I'd like to see him continue to work on his position-specific skills ... his technique, his throwing motion. He relies so much on his great athleticism that sometimes he's not as sound as he needs to be on his fundamentals.

It seems unlikely that the team would let the former No. 1 pick walk, but maybe they are not too enamored with his 59.5 percent completion percentage. It looks like he is going to play out the final year of his contract so we may find out whether the team is going to let him test the market or not.
