Indianapolis Colts Ready to Let Chuck Pagano Walk?

The short tenure of Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano has been an interesting one to say the least., He had the unenviable task of rebuilding a 2-14 team, but instead had to focus on his own health and let someone else do it. He has guided the team to the playoffs in each of his three seasons and even got the team a game from playing in the Super Bowl.

So why on Earth are the Colts not locking him up for the foreseeable future and extending his contract?

For some odd reason the Colts appear to be content with seeing how the team does in the final year off his contract before extending him:

What on Earth is Jim Irsay thinking? Yes, the team can't seem to stop the New England Patriots, but it is not like there are a plethora of quality coaches available that could possibly do better. The team is not only competitive, but it has become a perennial contender again.

This is a slap in the face to Pagano. If he does make it all the way through to the end of the season without a contract offer he should play the field and hold the Colts up for a small fortune before signing his new contract.
