Dallas Cowboys Putting an End to the "Dez Rules"

When the Dallas Cowboys drafted Dez Bryant they knew they were getting a player with some issues. After all he was suspended for his final year at Oklahoma State for lying about his interaction with Deion Sanders to the NCAA. His attitude made headlines pretty quick when he refused to carry pads for some veterans back to the locker room--but that wasn't the worst of it.

There were issues with a mall security guard, trouble paying his bill for jewelry he had purchased on credit, a domestic violence issue with his mom. They all led to the team putting in place what would become known as the Dez Rules.

They were a set of guidelines put in place to basically help him keep out of trouble as well as someone from the team keeping an eye on him when he wasn't at practice. They must be working because in recent years the only bad thing he has done lately was not catch that ball (according to the officials) during the Green Bay game.

Yes, there was the whole mess with the video of him possibly getting aggressive with a woman in a Walmart parking lot; a video we now know never existed.

According to the rumor mill, part of the team's reluctance to pay him what he and the rest of the free world think he is worth is his propensity for trouble. No one wants to pay a player a boatload of money and see him suspended for the year because he hits his girlfriend or beats his kid with a switch.

So--it's time to see if he can handle acting like a responsible adult while not being watched. Time for the Dez Rules to be kicked to the curb--and they have been. The team began drawing back significantly last season on the Rules, but have decided enough is enough.

Now--about that contract....
