When Lawrence Phillips left Nebraska a year early in 1996 he was expected to be the next great running back in the NFL, but only under one condition. He was going to have to figure out how to stay out of trouble which was something he had struggled with in college. Sure enough he struggled with it in the NFL as well and he became known as one of the biggest draft busts of all time.
He is currently serving a 31-year sentence on charges including auto theft and spousal abuse, but it sounds like there is a chance his stay could become a lot longer.

Phillips has been accused of killing his cell mate, a convicted murderer named Damion Soward. Soward was found unresponsive in his cell prior to 1 AM Saturday morning. Officials have yet to say why they think Phillips may have done it, but being his cell mate does bump him up to the top of the suspect list.
