Former Washington Redskins Quarterback Jason Campbell Thinking About Retiring

When you have played football for as long as you ca remember it is pretty hard to imagine not playing, but that is the realization that every player faces at some point during his career. Troy Polamalu recently did and decided to hang it up.

It appears that there is a good chance former Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell may call it a career and retire.

Campbell played his college ball at Auburn before being drafted by the Washington Redskins with the 25th pick of the first round back in 2005. After five so-so seasons he ended up being traded to the Oakland Raiders after the Redskins acquired Donovan McNabb from the Eagles.

He played the better part of two seasons with the Raiders. After getting the team off to a 4-2 start in 2011 he suffered a season ending injury (collarbone). The team acquired Carson Palmer from the Bengals effectively ending his time in the Bay Area.

Oakland chose not to resign him after the 2011 season, but the Chicago Bears thought enough of him to sign him prior to the 2012 season. He signed a two year deal with the Cleveland Browns after the 2012 season, but they ended up cutting him in 2014. He ended up spending the 2014 season backing up Bengals QB Andy Dalton.

Campbell says he has had offers from the Bengals and Ravens for the 2015 season, but he has turned them down (which lends credibility to the thought he may retire).

Should he do that it will bring an end to a career of a player that was good, but never great. Part of the fault can be laid on the quality of support players he had around him, but he also never quite developed in to the player coaches thought he would be.
