Several New England Patriots Visited Wounded Veterans at Walter Reed Prior to White House

Before the New England Patriots hit the White House for the annual visit from the reigning Super Bowl champion Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick, and several of the players paid a visit to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Ever since the first Super Bowl win of the Belichick Era the team has made a practice of spending some time with the veterans being treated at Walter Reed.

They had thought about bringing the whole team, but opted to go with just Julian Edelman, Devin McCourty, Chandler Jones, Jerod Mayo, Matthew Slater, and Rob Gronkowski instead in order to make the time spent with the vets more personal.

“It’s unbelievable to see these young men and women serving their country and going out there and seeing the things that you see there,” Edelman said. “Like Coach said, those are the true heroes.”
While they were there the the group ended up giving a football autographed by the team to a die-hard Seattle Seahawks fan who had watched the Super Bowl with his buddy, a die-hard Patriots fan named John Dawson.

Dawson has since been killed in action. The Seattle fan said he will be presenting the football to Dawson's family.
