Dallas Cowboys Rookies Could be Hit Hard With Fines Over Their iPad Playbooks

Rookies across the league got their first taste of life in the NFL over the weekend with their first rookie mini-camp. Thanks to the rookie wage scale most are already under contract, and if they aren't chances are they probably will be soon.

For the Dallas Cowboys rookies their first paycheck can't come soon enough; especially if they forget to power up their iPad playbooks before a meeting.

Rather than give their rookies old-fashioned binders for playbooks the Dallas Cowboys have handed out iPads. We live in an electronic age so this does not come as a surprise. Some colleges will let students get textbooks on their Kindle or other reading device. It's the world we live in.

Of course if a student loses his/her Kindle or breaks it he/she is screwed. The same runs true for the Cowboys rookies, but in a different way. Students will have to figure out how to replace their device, but the Cowboys rookies will face some heavy fines should they lose their iPad playbook or God forbid--forget to charge it:

  • Lose it: $11,000
  • Forget it in your car: $2100
  • Forget to charge it: $2100

Sound a little harsh? Well....these guys get paid a lot of money to play football. It's kind of hard to study what they need to learn if they don't have their playbook. No coach is going to want to hold up a meeting while someone runs out to their car either.

So--harsh? Nah.
