Former Alabama QB Blake Sims Signs With the Toronto Argonauts

Blake Sims had a really good season as the starting quarterback for Alabama last season. The former running back turned quarterback completed 64.4 percent of his passes for almost 3500 yards and 28 touchdowns with just 10 interceptions. For a quarterback playing for a run oriented team those are great numbers.

They were not enough to get him drafted, but they were good enough to get him workouts with the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins. Neither team offered to sign him, but someone else did.

Sims will be heading north of the border to play quarterback for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He has been signed to a three-year deal with the team to play quarterback.

At just 6' he may have been a little short for some teams to sign as a quarterback. He worked out at running back for the Packers and Redskins and word is he looked good, but when there are other players that look just as good if not better that have been playing the position for the last four years he is going to be the odd man out.

Who knows. A number of players have started their careers in Canada and gone on to NFL greatness. Doug Flutie was another height challenged QB that got his break in Canada. It took a few years of him dominating competition for the NFL to wake up, but eventually it did.

Could that happen for Sims? Only time will tell.
