Green Bay Packers Looking at Former Alabama QB Blake Sims For Something Other Than Quarterback

Blake Sims was a pretty good quarterback for Alabama last season. Great? No--but definitely good. He wasn't good enough to warrant being drafted, but good enough for the Green Bay Packers to bring in to rookie mini-camp over the weekend for a tryout. With Brett Hundley being drafted he would have to beat out Scott Tolzien for the No. 3 slot (not impossible).

It appears that the Packers may have other intentions with Sims.

Sims was actually a running back when he got to Alabama, but switched to quarterback after his freshman season. He didn't run much as a quarterback last season, but he did do some running in high school. According to his Rivals page he ran for 665 yards and 15 touchdowns on 70 carries.

So he has skills and just in case they are good enough to justify signing him the Packers went ahead and put him through some non-QB drills:
"That's something that’s been thrown around," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said (via ESPN). "The evaluation process doesn't end today. But it's nice to have video. We did some post-practice work with guys we may want to look at different positions. We did a lot more open-space drill work and tried to put these guys in football drills to make sure the personnel department is getting everything they needed."
With a 4.57 40-yard dash he has some speed. With his quarterback background he would be the perfect guy to run a trick play with too.
