Washington Redskins the Back-Up Plan for Hard Knocks if Cleveland Gets Approved for Exemption

The NFL-based reality show Hard Knocks is pretty popular. The world loves reality television and what is perceived to be a behind-the-scenes look at things like our favorite football teams. As much as we like to get that special look at an NFL team we don't want it to be our team. Sounds strange right?

Well--we don't want our team to be distracted and not as prepared as it could be for the coming season.

A team has not been announced for the show for the coming season, but it sounds like if it is not the Cleveland Browns it will be the Washington Redskins. It will all hinge on whether Cleveland is granted an exemption because of Johnny Maniel's stint in rehab.

After struggling to find a team willing to do the show the league decided to make it mandatory for whoever they choose depending on certain criteria. If a team has done the show over the last decade, was a playoff team the last two seasons, or has a new head coach it can't be chosen for the show.

This season that means either Tampa Bay, New York Giants, Jacksonville, St Louis, Houston, Tennessee, Minnesota, Cleveland, or Washington could be forced to do the show. Cleveland is hoping to get a pass in because of quarterback Johnny Manziel's stay in rehab.

While it would make for a heck of a story-line it is understandable they would want him not to have to deal with the cameras.

Should Washington get the nod they have a number of good potential story lines as well. There is the love-hate relationship the world has with Robert Griffin III. Head coach Jay Gruden is in danger of losing his job if he can't turn the team around this season. After a great rookie season, Alfred Morris has been rather pedestrian--and he's going in to a contract year. RG3 and his wife are expecting a baby that could be born around training camp time.

Only time will tell who gets picked. Either way the show should be a good one.
