It is a sad day for Texas A&M fans and graduates everywhere. After winning the Heisman in '57 he went on to play ten years in the NFL before joining the staff of his former head coach, Bear Bryant, now at Alabama. He returned to Texas A&M in 1983 as the assistant athletic director and later became the AD in '88 (a position he held till '93).
He served Texas A&M as the Director of Athletic Development from 1993 until he officially retired from Texas A&M University in June of 2001.
Throughout his career on and off the gridiron he was the picture of respect, honor, and integrity. He will be missed by many.
