Gus Johnson Do Enough To Earn A Job On The Dallas Cowboys Practice Squad?

Former Stephen F. Austin running back Gus Johnson quickly became a fan favorite when he was signed to the Dallas Cowboys after injuries hit the 'Boys hard during training camp. He played well in his first game and second game, but as the other guys got healthy he played less. When he took the field for Thursday night's preseason contest with the Houston Texans he knew he had to shine or risk getting cut.

In the end, he turned in an admirable performance gaining 68 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown (which was scored on a heck of a run):

Sadly, it was not enough and he was cut Friday afternoon. the question now is whether he did enough during what time he had on the field to convince someone else to give him a call.

Probably not--from anyone else.

I doubt that anyone else is going to give him a call. He was not bad. He just didn't make enough big plays to warrant doing someone giving him another shot. However, since the Cowboys saw him everyday in practice so they have a good idea of what he can do and who he is. Rumor has it they liked what they saw, just not enough to give him a roster spot.

Don't be surprised to see him on the Dallas practice squad pretty soon. That way the tam can keep him close and continue to work on his development.
