When the NFL decided that the ball for extra point kicks would be placed on the 15-yard line the reaction was pretty negative. No one could see the benefit to moving them back. The NFL seemed to think that they were meaningless plays so moving them back would change all that. How is still a mystery, but that is the logic behind the change.
So when the change was made there was one thing that every NFL kicker knew--they didn't want to be the first. No one wants to be the first player to miss an extra point from the new spot, but someone had to be first.
