Houston Astros Keep Playoff Hopes Alive And Set New Record In Blowout Win Over Diamondbacks

With the season on the line and the playoffs looming in the near future the Houston Astros needed to find some offense Friday night to make sure they remained alive in the playoff push--and find it they did. It started with a RBI single by Colby Rasmus that plated George Springer and ended 20 runs later when Matt Duffy hit a line drive to center that scored George Springer and Jonathan Villar.

The mark set a new franchise record with 21 runs in a single game.

For much of the season it looked like the Houston Astros were going to win their first division title since 2001, but that dream is not dead yet. Should the team win their last two and the Rangers lose their last two the miracle could still happen.

However, should they beat the Diamondbacks Saturday night and the Rangers beat the Angels (and the Royals beat the Twins) they will lock up the second wild card spot. It will be the first trip to the post season for Houston since they made it to the 2005 World Series.
