Jordan Matthews Joined The Scout Team To Help Break Out Of Slump

Expectations were high for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews coming into this season, but he has not performed up to par this season. Through the first seven games he had just 39 receptions with ten of them coming in the first game. However, it was his drops that was killing his stats and hurting the team.

Last week he appeared to break out of the slump with a 9-reception, 133 yard day that included the game-winning touchdown.

So how'd he break out of the slump? He credits spending some time down on the scout team.
"But I’m on the practice field. I have 10 periods to put better stuff on tape so I can put that last thing behind me. So I took some scout team reps. Go against Byron Maxwell. Go be Dez Bryant for him. Or go inside and help out Malcolm (Jenkins) and do some inside reps. It’s something, going back to Week 1, that I like to jump in and do a little scout team."
It appeared to work against Dallas, but before we can really say he is out of the slump he'll need to string a few good games together. With the Dolphins, Buccaneers, and Lions on deck that may not be a problem.
