Growing up I wanted to become a skier so bad; not water--snow. In the movies and television shows it looked so cool! Shooting down the slope, wind whipping in your hair, smile on your face, nature screaming by...awesome was the only way I could describe it. Then when you get to the bottom and come to that sliding stop where you throw snow in someone's face--like I said awesome.
In Texas there were not too many places you could snow ski. We didn't vacation out of state so I never got to try. Then I got older and heard about people dying while they were skiing; running into trees going really fast does more than hurt.
Then my wife tells me how when she was a kid she broke all kinds of bones in her body after inadvertently driving a snowmobile off s short cliff. Suffice it to say I find it easy to swear off of doing anything more than a spirited snow ball fight when it comes to winter sports!
That doesn't mean I don't dig watching the pros make what scares me to death look super easy at the X-Games!
The stuff these guys do is simply incredible. Sometimes when I forget the reality that is my life i day dream about possibly still giving skiing or snowboarding a try. Then I see what happened to the Moore brothers, Caleb and Colton.
Both brothers crashed during the snowmobile freestyle at this year's competition and they were not pretty at all.
Caleb suffered a concussion, and was later discovered to have a heart contusion as well forcing him to undergo emergency surgery. Colten seperated his pelvis. I didn't know you could do that.
I think I'll stick to snowballs.
