Folks in the United States just don't know what they are
missing when it comes to rugby. Take all the best parts about football and the
consistency of soccer and you have (in a nutshell) the game of rugby. it is
chock full of strategy, play calls, hard hits, intensity, big plays,
athleticism--the game is just flat out awesome.
The problem is in figuring it out for most Americans since
the vast majority have seen it in movies or the occasional commercial. More and more have played the
game at the collegiate level.
It is becoming popular in many high schools across the
nation, and it offers an outlet for men--and women--that want to keep playing
beyond college no matter how competitive they want to be.
If you know a rugby player (or former player) and he/she
seems really happy right now it is because the RBS 6 Nations Tournament has
begun. Over the next few weeks some of the best rugby teams in the world
(France, England, Scotland, Italy, Wales, and Ireland) will battle it out on
the pitch for the right to be crowned champion.
If you can get the pay-per-view channel all the power to you
(yes, I am jealous). If not check out the BBC. You will not catch all the
games, but some are better than none.
I'll do what I can to find and post highlight for my fellow
ruggers.
