Sandy Hook Elementary Students to Sing During Super Bowl Pre-Game Show
The Super Bowl is only a few days away and the plans are pretty much in place. We know who is going to be doing what, when they are going to be doing it, and I'm sure their will be a phalanx of reporters and bloggers on stand-by ready to call them out for any and every misstep along the way.
One of the better moves the NFL made I heard about Wednesday. During the pregame show there is going to be a chorus made up of 26 children from Sandy Hook Elementary in Newton, Connecticut, present to sing "America the Beautiful."
This move falls right in line with many of the things that players, teams, and the league did in the days and weeks following that horrible tragedy. The players especially should be commended for doing what they could to make sure that the nation remembered what was really important--and it wasn't them or a silly football game.
Then on Thursday I read that the NFL added Jennifer Hudson to the chorus.
I get it NFL. She adds star power, and when it comes to a broadcast where over 100 million people are going to be watching you need to have all the star power you have on hand shining as bright as humanly possible.
It sure would have been a cool, classy gesture to let those kids have the limelight. I haven't heard or read anything to this effect, but I hope that you at least recognize the recording that the survivors did of "Over the Rainbow" to raise money for the United Way of Western Connecticut and the Newton Youth Academy.
