Ed Reed Fills Big Hole for the Houston Texans

The wait appears to be over--Ed Reed is headed to the Houston Texans!

Reed becomes another one of the many Ravens to go elsewhere after the team won the Super Bowl last season (yeah,  you may have an overpaid Joe Flacco, but you ain't got anything else Baltimore!).

Rumor has it that the two sides have settled on a two or three year deal (depending n what you read) with each year worth the rumored $4 million a year that we've been hearing about. I've also heard that the final price tag is somewhere in the $5-6 million range.

Whatever it is, the number was far below what Reed had wanted to make ($6-7 million; he made $7.2 million last season), but there just wasn't anyone interested in signing a 34-year old player to that kind of contract.

Reed may have also been willing to take less to play on a contender. With the losses that the Ravens have suffered this off-season it would be surprising to see them contend next season (too many holes to fill).

The addition of Reed fills a big hole for Texans left when safety Glover Quinn decided to jump ship and sign with the Detroit Lions. As good as Quinn was, there is no denying that Reed is a huge upgrade (assuming he can stay healthy and on the field). The man only holds the record for most yards gained on interception returns and is tied for the career lead in playoff interceptions.

Last season he had 58 tackles and four interceptions (with one returned for a touchdown).
