Longtime Carolina Panthers Place Kicker John Kasay Retires

Another one of the legendary kicker of the modern era in the NFL--John Kasay (4)--has announced that he is hanging it up after two decades in the league.

When you have been around the league as long as Kasay has you are bound to be pretty good at your job--and he was. Over the course of his career he has booted 461 field goals through the uprights on 563 attempts (both sixth all-time for career numbers).

His career field goal percentage is the fifth best (minimum 500 kicks; 81.9 percent). With 1,970 points to is name he sits at No. 8 on the all-time career scoring list.

He is one of the best long-distance kickers to ever play having kicked 42 from 50 yards or more (second all-time). This feat--and all his numbers--are even more impressive when you consider that for the bulk of his career his home field was outdoors (in Carolina where he spent 16 years on the team).

To say he is one of the best is an understatement. He was signed to a one-day contract so he could retire as a Panther.

Kasay joins Jason Hanson, the long time kicker for the Detroit Lions in retirement.
