2013 NBA Draft Full of Surprises and Trades

The 2013 NBA Draft is not being hailed as one chock full of break out talent, but there are plenty of good players to be had that in the right system and with the right coach could turn into superstars. Maybe the lack of a consensus break-out talent is what caused teams to go a little crazy.

And not just with their picks but with trades.

The Cleveland Cavaliers got the ball rolling with the first surprise of the night. Instead of taking Nerlens Noel like everyone expected they took Anthony Bennett from UNLV.

The 6’8” and 240 pounder is the type of guy that could end up playing both forward spots so chances are he will fill a need for the Cavs pretty early. So it is not a bad pick; just a surprising one.

I have to give the owners and general managers a lot of credit for being willing to pull the trigger on trades so easily, because there were plenty:

· The Pelicans took Nerlens Noel with the No. 6 pick and shipped him off to Philadelphia for Jrue Holiday and a first round pick in 2014.

· Minnesota took Trey Burke with the No. 9 pick and then traded him to Utah for the No. 14 and No. 21 picks.

· Dallas took Kelly Olynyk with the No. 13 pick and traded him to Boston for the No. 16 pick and two second round picks in 2014.

· Dallas than moved the No. 16 pick—which the Celtics used to take Lucas Nogueira—to the Atlanta along with Jared Cunningham for the No. 18 and No. 44 picks.

I'll be sure and update the list if there are any more trades.
