A Sad Chapter Comes to a Close for Kansas City Chiefs

It has been seven months since the fateful day in Kansas City when linebacker Jovan Belcher decided that he was going to shoot the mother of his baby girl and then drive to the Arrowhead Stadium where he shot himself in the head.

The biggest question mark to arise out of the tragedy was of course what was to become of baby Zooey. Family on both sides, of Belchar's and Kasandra Perkins (Zooey's mother), wanted custody of her. Sophie Perkins, Zooey's first cousin once removed on her mother's side, has been caring for Zooey. Belchar's mother, Cheryl Sheperd, wanted custody as well.

In the end, a Missouri judge decided that the person best suited to care for Zooey and be her legal guardian would be Sophie Perkins. Zooey is set to inherit close to $800,000 from her father's estate and will also receive benefits from the NFL and a life insurance policy.

While this chapter closes the next one, a painful one still awaits. Not only will this beautiful baby girl have to grow up without either parent, but someday she'll have to be told why.
