Boston Celtics Set Ground for Rebuild With Blockbuster Trade With Nets

The Boston Celtics have made it clear that they are looking to go out with the old and in with the new. That was pretty evident when they let Doc Rivers go to the West Coast. Now that Kevin Garnett has decided to waive his no-trade clause it looks like the breaking down part of the rebuild is complete.

He and Paul Pierce are being traded.

No trades can become official till July 10, but after Garnett waived his no-trade clause the two sides were able to agree to a trade--and the Celtics are really coming out on top here.

In exchange for KG, Pierce, and Jason Terry the Celtics are going to get three first round picks (including the No. 16 and No. 18 in 2014), Kris Humphries' expiring contract, Gerald Wallace,Tornike Shengelia, Reggie Evans and a sign-and-traded Keith Bogans.

So basically the Nets are banking on Garnett, Pierce, and Terry to win in the next couple years since retirement is not far off for either of the three. In exchange they get to dump a whole lot of salary on the Celtics.

Boston has done what they set out to do this off-season. They have stripped the roster down to its bare bones. Now its time to build it back up.

With Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez already on the roster if new head coach Jason Kidd can get them to play together the 2013-14 season could be a great one for Brooklyn.
