Los Angeles Dodgers Calling Up Yasiel Puig

Things haven't quite gone the way the Los Angeles Dodgers thought it would this season. At 23-32 they are one of the worst teams in baseball. The offense is anemic only scoring more than the Marlins in the National League. It's not going to get any better with Matt Kemp on the DL and Carl Crawford possibly going on it after leaving Saturday's game with an injury.

So what's a team to do when it needs a boost? It calls up a player expected to be the next big thing-- Cuban defector Yasiel Puig.

The move makes sense.

Puig killed it in spring training hitting .517 in 58 at-bats making it almost surprising that he even started the season in the minors. While playing AA ball in Chattanooga he has hit .317 with eight home runs and 37 RBIs.

Word is that they sent him down because they thought he needed a little more professionalism and was a bit on the immature side (he is 22). Why they expected him to get that in the minors any better than he would in the Big Leagues is a mystery.

It appears now that they are willing to take a risk on the youngster in hopes that he can give them a much needed boost. Plus since they are paying him $42 million over the next seven years its high time they start getting something for the money.

He's expected to play Monday when the Dodgers start a three game series with the Padres at home.
