Texas Rangers Outfielder Leonys Martin Takes One For the Team

When you are young it is important to do what you can for the team. You have to give them a reason to want to keep you on the big league roster--otherwise it's back to the minors! Most of the time it will mean making a big play or a clutch hit to win, but sometimes it can just be showing you are one tough SOB.

Like Texas Rangers outfielder Leonys Martin did Wednesday night against the New York Yankees.

During his at-bat in the top of the 8th and the Rangers holding on to a 6-5 lead Martin stepped up to the plate ready to take care of business. The only problem was that in the process of taking care of business his business was--well, taken care of.

Just not in a nice way.

Yeah it looks like he took one their off the family jewels. If not the jewels it was sure pretty darn close. He stayed down for a couple minutes, but eventually got back up and get this--dude finished his at-bat!

Okay so he struck out, but the man got hit where no man likes to ever get hit by something very hard that was travelling very fast. I don't know how fast, but with pitchers throwing in the 80-90's mph range I imagine it was pretty darn fast.

When I was a kid I got hit by a car pulling out of a parking lot when I was riding my bike. He was going maybe 10-15 mph at the time of contact and my entire leg basically turned black and blue for a couple weeks.

Leonys got hit by something going much faster and still got back up to finish the game.

He's either dumb or has some incredible heart (I'm going to go with heart).
