The Real Reason Yankees GM Brian Cashman is So Angry With A-Rod

Sometime on Tuesday New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez sent a simple tweet; nothing big or dirty or vulgar. It was something that Twitter was made for really. However, when word got to Yankees GM Brian Cashman he was mad.

All A-Rod tweeted was that he had seen the doctor and was finally cleared to start playing games. Cashman took offense to him releasing this info to the world and went on a mini-rant to ESPN New York:

"You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, (we will). Alex should just shut the ---- up. That's it. I'm going to call Alex now."

Wow. Power trip much? Maybe this is more common than fans outside of  New York are aware, but it seems a little ridiculous. I get that Cashman had just stated on Monday that A-Rod had not been cleared and that the team really couldn't say when he was going to start playing games. 

Shoot--things change from one day to the next sometimes. A-Rod did say he saw the doctor Tuesday after all. No need to get so bent out of shape--which makes me think that he is not really all that mad at A-Rod. I think it is something else and A-Rod is the unlucky recipient of his wrath.

Like maybe the fact that the Yankees are no longer leading the pack in the American League anymore.

At 42-34 they are still one of the better teams in baseball, but in the AL East they are 2.5 games out of first and tied for second with the Baltimore Orioles. Even if they don't win the division they are in contention for the wildcard spot, but with the way they have playing it is going to be kind of hard to win it.

When it comes to pitching they are one of the better staffs in the AL (3rd in ERA with 3.76), but with one of the worst offenses in baseball (No. 26 in MLB and second to last in the AL) with just a .239 batting average.

So while A-Rod's tweet might be mildly vexing at best, he was probably made that his team is no longer elite.
