The Rebuild is Officially on for the Boston Celtics

When you want to rebuild you might as well knock down whatever blocks you still have standing and make it a complete rebuild--at least that appears to be the logic that the Boston Celtics are taking.

Rumors have surrounded the core of the Celtics for weeks and it appears as if one of those rumors has now turned into fact. Head coach Doc Rivers is heading out west to take over the Clippers.

The Clippers and Celtics have agreed to a deal that will send Rivers to Los Angeles pending David Stern's approval. Word is that the Clippers and Rivers have agreed to a three-year $21 million deal. Incidentally, he was due to make the same in Boston over the same time frame.

In return, the Celtics will get a first round pick from the Clippers (for the 2015 draft). Should this deal be approved the Clippers claim that Chris Paul is ready to sign a max deal with the team.

The move is one that the Celtics organization appears to be completely on board with. The team expects to be in a complete rebuild mode next season and does not see the need to have a coach that makes $7 million on the payroll.

To complete the rebuild the team will continue to try and move its other two stars, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Pierce is no longer a youngster (35), but the team is still hoping to get a first round pick for him. So far the only known offer from the table is from Cleveland of two second round picks.

As for Kevin Garnett, the talk involving Rivers and the Clippers also involved him, but as of yet he does not appear to be headed out west. It may be harder to justify trading him for a first round pick. The big man is 37 and has not played a full season since back when he was in Minnesota (2004-05 season).
