Adrian Beltre Gives Elvis Andrus a Taste of His Own Medicine

Oh those crazy Texas Rangers. The Boys from Arlington appear to have found their bats again and are now riding a four game winning streak after Saturday's 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Of course when you win the game is more fun.

How better to show that than to exact a little good-natured revenge during a game?

That is exactly what went on during the Rangers game against the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday night. With one out, no base runners, and just a two-run lead Adrian Beltre decided it was time to give Elvis Andrus a taste of his own medicine.

He got in Elvis's space as the  shortstop maneuvered to snag an easy pop-up by Yadier Molina. Okay--this is funnier with a little bit of background.

Fans of the Rangers are likely well aware that Beltre has a thing with his space being violated. He doesn't like it. Call it a quirk. Call it weird. Call it whatever you want, but it really gets under his skin whenever it happens.

It's his pet peeve--and the team knows it.

It is not unusual for many of the guys to mess with him from time to time, but Andrus seems to delight in doing it more than anyone else. There was a funny little scene earlier this season when he rubbed Beltre's head when a number of players had gathered at the pitcher's mound.

That ended with Beltre throwing his glove at Andrus as he ran away.

At least twice this season Andrus has gotten dangerously close to messing Beltre up as he attempted to field a routine pop-up. You can see both of the aforementioned plays here.

So when opportunity presented itself Beltre got back at Andrus Saturday night.

Okay, so Beltre didn't push the envelope as much as Andrus did, but the game was still on the line!

  1. Anytime you can make life a little less stressful, go for it. It's good to see that they realize, after all, it IS still a game.
