Texas A&M Opens the 2013 Season with a Win in Spite of Personnel Losses

All is not quite well in College Station, but with a 52-31 win over the Rice Owls to open the season Texas A&M appears to be on the right path.

When the 2013 college football season kicked off Saturday in College Station—the home of the Fighting Texas A&M Aggies—it did so with a sense of trepidation. Fans already knew that their team was going to be minus Johnny Manziel and cornerback Deshazor Everett for a half and safety Floyd Raven for the game.

What they didn’t know was that they were also going to lose cornerback De’Vante Harris, linebacker Steven Jenkins, defensive end Gavin Stansbury and receiver Edward Pope as well.

The only reason the team gave for the suspensions was a violation of team rules, but it was serious enough for the team to sit them down against Rice as well as next week when the team takes on Sam Houston State.

So with Johnny Manziel and close to half the starting defense on the sideline was there reason for the Aggie Nation to worry?

Maybe-- just a little....
