Wild, Wild Finish to Game Three of the World Series; Cardinals Awarded Winning Run

This is not how a World Series game is supposed to end, but since the first two game were affected  by player errors I guess it only makes sense that the umpires get to screw up a game too.

I had to watch this a few times to soak in everything that happened but essentially it comes down to this:

On a wild final play, the Cardinals were awarded the winning run when base runner Allen Craig tripped over third baseman Will Middlebrooks as he attempted to scramble home following Jarrod Saltalamacchia's throwing error. The play started with Dustin Pedroia making an incredible diving stop to throw out Yadier Molina at home, but Saltalamacchia's aggressive throw to third sailed down the line.
Wow.

I suppose if that is the letter of the law than the ending is at it should be. However, as a fan I feel a little cheated. I don't want to see a Word Series game decided on a controversial call by the umpires.

It doesn't look to me like Middlebrooks was trying to obstruct him. He just ended up on the ground in the process of trying to make a play on Salty's poor throw. He didn't grab Craig or intentionally try to block him from reaching home.

He just tried to do his job.

The worst thing that can happen now is for the umpires to apology for making an erroneous call in the media. That will just enrage fans even more than this crappy has. You made the call guys--now own it.

Oh--Cards won 5-4.
