Marshall Loses Conference-USA Championship to Rice But Lays the Boom Down on the Owls Anyway

The scoreboard was not the friend of the Thundering Herd Saturday when they took on the Rice Owls for the Conference-USA Championship. Rice got out to a 21-3 lead early in the second quarter en route to a 41-24 win and their first conference championship since 1957.

While Marshall was always behind on the scoreboard that never stopped the team from playing hard and giving their all during the game. Even though they won there are going to be at least a couple of Rice players that had the boom laid down on them.

Rice linebacker Alex Lyons is not going to be physically sore after taking this stiff arm from Marshall quarterback Rakeem Cato, but he's going to be hearing about it from the guys for months after they watch this play on film.

As for wide receiver Derek Brown--yeah, he just got laid out!
