How Far Can Rick Barnes take the Longhorns?

Texas men’s basketball coach Rick Barnes started the season on the hot seat, but after a solid start it has cooled off—but will it stay that way?

Rick Barnes has been the head coach of the men’s basketball team for some time; since 1998 in fact—the same year that Mack Brown started. Much like Brown much was expected of Barnes, and with the exception of last season he has delivered. From the 1998-99 season through the 2011-12 one he led the team to a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Four times the team made it to the Sweet Sixteen; twice they made it to the Elite Eight. ot bad, but also not good enough to keep his seat from warming up after the team missed out on the Tournament for the first time during his tenure.

However, after 10-1 start it is likely safe to say his seat has cooled off. In fact, if he can keeps the momentum going with a win Saturday against No. 6 Kansas fans will have to start wondering if the Big 12 title and maybe even Tournament glory could be within reach.

"I guess I went from being dumb to being smart," Barnes said after Saturday's game, a win over Baylor and the team’s third consecutive win over a ranked opponent....
