Astros Hook Derek Jeter Up With Pin Stripe Boots, Cowboy Hat, and Some Golf Clubs [PHOTOS]

Last season Derek Jeter got to watch as his longtime teammate and friend Mariano Rivera was showered with all kinds of gifts on his retirement tour. This season it is Derek Jeter's turn. After a couple decades in the game Jeter is calling it quits.

Time for some gifts. First up--the Houston Astros.

On Opening Day the Astros gave Derek Jeter a gift he didn't want, but Wednesday night he got a few that Houston hopes he does like--golf clubs (because he's going to have so much time on his hands and needs something to do; oh--and can't afford his own of course), a cowboy hat (Houston is in Texas after all), and customized pin stripe boots.

Personally I find it a little crazy that teams shower opposing players with gifts like this (although next to Mariano Rivera has this been done before?). Maybe there is a method to the madness though. While the Yankees and Jeter are in town the Astros Pro Shop is stocked with plenty of Jeter apparel.

The fan in me thinks this kind of move is crap, but I get it. He's a popular guy from a popular team that is going bye-bye; perfect kind of thing a pro shop can cash in on.

For those fans that are angry about it--take solace in the fact that the home team won again and Jeter went 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout.
