John Calipari Puts His Spin Doctor Mojo to Work on One and Done Philosophy

Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari is either an unjustly maligned genius or one lucky SOB. A few weeks ago there were some that questioned whether he was an elite coach (guilty) or just a master recruiter. Now his No. 8 seed Wildcats are heading in to the Final Four and favored against a No. 2 seed (Wisconsin).

So maybe there is something to the whole one and done philosophy he embraces--only he doesn't want it called that anymore.

In Coach Cal's mind it is no longer 'one and done' but 'succeed and proceed.'

Feel free to take a moment and laugh if you'd like......Done? Okay.

I see what he is trying to say. He's embracing the fact that so many off his players play one season and head to the NBA; a practice that many despise and think hurts the game at both levels. So rather than let it have the negative connation it has he's put a little spin on it.

Succeed--win, preferably a championship of some kind. Proceed--right on to the NBA.

Rinse and repeat.

I didn't see him make the comments so I don't know if he was serious or not, but since the team is decked out in 'Succeed and Proceed' t-shirts I'm going to guess he is.

Go ahead--shake your head in disbelief. I certainly am.
