Keeping pitchers healthy has been an issue for the Texas Rangers. The number of injuries they've dealt with over the last few years is crazy; almost enough to make you wonder how they've managed to be as competitive as they have been. So it came as no surprise when ace pitcher Yu Darvish had to open the season on the DL.
It really shouldn't come as much of a surprise that he made history during his first start of the season Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

During the first inning of Sunday's Rays game he struck out Wil Myers to become the fastest player in MLB history to record 500 strikeouts. The previous mark was held by former Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Woods who accomplished the feat in 404 2/3 innings.
Darvish beat him by three innings.
Rangers fans are likely asking themselves two questions right about now: (1) is he going to turn out like Woods who fizzled out as fast as he started? and (2) what's the mark for
1000 Ks (Kerry Woods, 853 innings)?
[Rays fans might not love him, but Texas fans certainly do!]
