Professional Rugby League Star Jarryd Hayne Coming to the Seattle Seahawks?

Ask a fan of the NRL--National Rugby League--about Jarryd Hayne and they will know exactly who he is: the 26-year old two time winner of the Player of the Year (Dally M Medal) and one of the baddest men in the game. After they say that part with joy and admiration they may get angry when they mention how he was about to become the highest paid player in the NFL, but decided to quit instead.

He quit so he could come to America and play in the NFL instead. Rumor has it the Seahawks could have first dibs on the 6'2" and roughly 220 pound (100 kg) athlete.

Hayne's former team, the Parramatta Eels, have a relationship with the Seattle Seahawks. Having earned the Wooden Spoon the last two seasons for coming in last the team decided to reach out to the Seahawks in hopes of picking the team's metaphorical brain for help on turning the franchise around.

Somewhere in the process of that relationship being formed it is quite possible that Hayne could have become familiar with the team and may feel like giving them a try first--if they are willing to give him a tryout.

He did meet with the Seahawks last month, but has yet to talk to them about joining the team. When he arrives in the country he will be like thousands of other hopefuls--a free agent.

Can he succeed? It will likely all depend on how quickly he can acclimate himself to the game of football. If nothing opens up for him he'll just pay the fee for one of the NFL's regional tryouts next year. He'll do well enough on the test to warrant consideration from someone.

So it will not be surprising to see him in camp with someone next season (FXFL perhaps this season?), but making the final roster will not be nearly as easy.

[Want to see him in action?]
