Texans Safety D.J. Swearinger Gets Ripped by His Family but Not Steelers HC Mike Tomlin

Monday night the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers will have a similar goal. Both will be hoping for a win that will allow them to get their season back on track. For Pittsburgh it would be more like taking a step towards being on the right track (they really haven't been). After dropping two nail biters Houston now wants to avoid falling below .500.

So there is a lot riding on this game which just like any other could very well come down to someone making a big play; the kind that Texans safety D. J. Swearinger likes to make.

Swearinger has made some big plays for the Texans this season, but his family wants to see him play a lot better. They told him as much after what they felt was a pretty bad game last week against the Indianapolis Colts. According to an ESPN story his dad ripped him on his tackling form, but the worst came from his grandma.

She flat out called him horrible.

He hasn't denied that his game left something to be desired last week, and the stats show he could has left a lot to be desired this season. He's missed five tackles on run planes this season, only makes a stop 4.5 percent of the time (36th among safeties), and is 57th in coverage snaps with 13.1 per reception.

To put that in to perspective the league leader is Carolina Panthers safety Thomas DeCoud with 116 coverage snaps per reception.

While he may need to do a better job overall he has made some key big plays for the Texans this season, and has show Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin he is someone the Steelers will need to be aware of (via PFT].
“He plays with a great deal of heart and passion. He is consistently physical. He does a lot for them....He has a well-rounded game. He is one of those on the rise, young and talented type of guys in our league.”
Swearinger's family fans will likely agree with Tomlin's assessment of him, but they will still probably say the same thing--the Texans need to see some better play.

We''ll find out Monday night if they get it.
