Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy is the Real Life Shane Falco

Have you ever heard the phrase 'art imitates life' or some derivation of it? Ever wonder if life could imitate art instead? Well--if you view the work Hollywood does as art than you will get to see just that when the Washington Redskins take on the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

How so? Because Colts McCoy has become Shane Falco.

If you are unfamiliar with the character played by Keanu Reeves, Shane Falco is the quarterback of the Washington Sentinels in the 2000 film The Replacements (one of the funniest movies ever). The similarities between Falco and McCoy are a little uncanny
  • Both were college stars whose careers finished on a bad note (Falco--blow out loss in bowl game; McCoy--injury early in national championship)
  • Both started playing too early in their pro careers and never really got to develop (Gene Hackman tells Falco he should have been carrying a clipboard; McCoy ended up starting as a rookie when someone else got hurt)
  • Both saw their pro careers come to a screeching halt before they really got started (Falco--presumably cut from team since he starts the movie cleaning boats; McCoy--you could say when the Browns drafted him; last start was with Browns in '11)
  • Both got an unexpected second chance from a professional franchise in Washington (Falco thanks to the strike; McCoy thanks to the Redskins carrying three QBs, RG3's injury, and Kirk Cousins ineffectiveness)
  • Both got/will get their big moment playing against the Dallas Cowboys
  • Both went/will go in to the Cowboys game knowing they are not going to play next week.
Of course McCoy could end up playing next week if the Redskins decided to give RG3 another week to heal before sending him back to the wolves. Had the movie continued beyond the end of the Dallas game maybe Falco would have played next week too.

We can only hope that the game tonight ends in the same way as the one in the movie:

Now that would be awesome.
