Purdue may have won the non-existent award for the most perplexing use of timeouts in recent history. Down 24-7, the Boilermakers decided to use all three timeouts to force the Wildcats to punt the ball before the end of the half. Sounds like a good idea, right? Give the offense a chance to do something before the end of the half, right?
Wrong.

Apparently the idea was to hopefully block the punt or for the return man to break off a big run, but when neither happened Purdue opted to kneel on the ball themselves.
So they essentially called timeout each time Northwestern did the same so that they could do it once as well.
