Armond Armstead Retired From the New England Patriots After a Second Heart Attack

There are certain things that should never be a concern to a someone that is just 23 years old like former New England Patriots defensive lineman Armond Armstead. He should be concerned about making weight, getting to team meetings on time, and what his sack dance is going to be--not whether he is going to have another heart attack.

Yes, I said another.

Armstead abruptly retired from the Patriots last July without really saying why. We knew it was a medical issue, but not what said issue was. Thanks to court documents related to his suit against his former college team, USC, we now know what that was.

He had a second heart attack.

The first came during his days at USC (March 2011). He blames it on the pain killers he was given by the Trojans, and is suing the University. The trial is expected to begin in Los Angeles April 6.

Armstead ended up sitting out his 2011 season at USC because he wasn't medically cleared. He headed to Canada to play after going undrafted in 2012. After helping the Toronto Argonauts win the Grey Cup he garnered attention from a number of NFL teams.

The Patriots signed him with the stipulation that he have surgery to repair a hole in his heart.
